Coffee Brewing Guide
Great coffee comes down to four variables: grind size, water temperature, ratio, and time. Nail these and any method will reward you.
The Basics
Start with freshly roasted, whole-bean coffee ground just before brewing. Use filtered water heated to 195–205°F (90–96°C). A general ratio of 1:16 (1g coffee to 16g water) is a solid baseline — adjust to taste.
Five Methods Worth Knowing
Pour Over (V60 / Chemex)
Grind medium-fine, like table salt. Rinse the filter, add grounds, and pour a small amount of water to bloom for 30–45 seconds. Then pour in slow, steady circles. Total brew time: 3–4 minutes. The result is clean, bright, and nuanced.
French Press
Grind coarse, like sea salt. Add grounds, pour all the water at once, and let it steep for 4 minutes. Press the plunger slowly. This method produces a full-bodied, rich cup with more oils and texture.
AeroPress
Grind medium-fine. The inverted method gives you the most control: add grounds, pour water at
